4-day / 3-night itinerary

Three nights in Colorado Springs: red rocks to summit

Arrive downtown Thursday, walk Garden of the Gods and Old Colorado City Friday, devote Saturday to Pikes Peak, then choose a south-side attraction or Olympic history Sunday.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

The route moves from downtown to Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and one south-side or museum stop over four calendar days.

Best length

4 days / 3 nights

Three nights provide separate days for Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, plus an arrival evening and a focused Sunday stop.

Stay

Kinship Landing

A downtown hotel with rooms, shared bunk options, a café and bar, and a guest kitchen, within walking distance of Tejon Street and the Olympic museum district.

Main activity

Garden sandstone and a 14,115-foot summit

Walk Garden of the Gods on Friday and take one Pikes Peak summit route on Saturday; each occupies its own weather and reservation window.

Trip shape

Garden Friday, summit Saturday

Keep the two high-demand landscapes on separate days, then match Sunday to timed tickets and departure time.

Colorado Springs three-night itinerary across downtown, Garden of the Gods, and Pikes Peak
Three nights leave room for red-rock trails, a high-elevation summit day, and city museums without stacking every major attraction into one afternoon.

Arrival

Thursday evening: Tejon Street and the museum district.

Check in downtown, walk past the Olympic & Paralympic Museum district, and settle into a Tejon Street dinner while Pikes Peak catches the last light.

Day 2

Friday: Garden of the Gods, Old Colorado City, and red-rock twilight.

Reach the Central Garden early, walk paved and natural-surface trails, stop for lunch in Old Colorado City, and return for a different sandstone angle late in the day.

1:00 PM

Afternoon

Cross into Old Colorado City for lunch and shade.

Historic Colorado Avenue brings galleries, storefronts, cafés, and a lower-key pause between trail segments.

Bookable Experiences

Colorado Springs Sunrise Balloon Ride

Day 3

Saturday: Pikes Peak by highway or Cog Railway.

Use the clearest mountain-weather window for the summit. Allow about four hours for the Cog Railway including early arrival, or more for highway overlooks and the descent.

6:30 AM

Breakfast

Eat near the hotel before the mountain departure.

Carry water and a warm layer from the start; downtown weather does not describe conditions at 14,115 feet.

1:00 PM

Afternoon

Descend before adding another outdoor stop.

Return to Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City, or downtown for a lower-elevation walk and an early evening.

Departure

Sunday: Cheyenne Mountain or Olympic history.

Choose one attraction that fits its current schedule and the trip home. Seven Falls is not open every day, and the zoo requires advance timed tickets.

10:00 AM

Departure morning

Choose one Sunday branch; do not combine them.

A zoo, Seven Falls, or North Cheyenne Cañon outing uses the remaining half-day and replaces downtown. For a shorter window, stay downtown for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum or depart after checkout.
